the Visit Neighboring States Series
Cabela’s outdoor store (10300 Cabela Dr, Kansas City, KS 66111) is more than just a place to buy fishing gear. They have an incredible lifelike taxidermy animal display, water feature and live fish aquariums. We visited the store a couple of times during our stay in Kansas City so hubby could do a little shopping.
Cabela’s is just about a block or so away from The Great Wolf Lodge. We loved the family friendly indoor water park. Our visit was in early April, so we didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoor pools or mini-golf. Mini fridges and microwaves come standard in all the rooms, so pack some easy lunch. The lodge wasn’t busy during our visit and they upgraded our room to a themed Wolf Den room for free! The kids LOVED it!
The kids each received a pair of soft wolf ear headbands and slept with them on. It was entertaining to watch the kids crawl into their beds and howl like wolves.
Our daughter really got into the character themes and loved Story Time at the Clock in the lobby. There was scavenger hunt, a craft, and lots of other little fun activities for the kids.
The lodge lobby has a big beautiful stone fireplace and lots of special things for kids! Overall we loved the Great Wolf Lodge and would highly recommend a visit! From Central Iowa, Kansas City is only a few hours drive and seems to offer the most opportunities and attractions for younger kids compared to other large cities that are the same driving distance. If you’re looking for a new place to visit, definitely check out this fun city!
While we were in the area – we also ate at the neatest restaurant – T-Rex Café.
