Hubby & I are often amazed at how much planning can go into a trip. We each remember how things were growing up in our families where dad and mom piled all the kids into the car and headed in one direction (usually west). Whatever you found along the way was what you got; hotel rooms, restaurants, or entertainment.
Now, I’ll spend weeks planning all the nitty-gritty details of our family excursions and I love it.
I love my travel box! I save brochures from all our favorite places.
When planning our field trips or family adventures, I couldn’t do without my free travel guide and maps from Travel Iowa. Grab one online or at any of the helpful Iowa Welcome Centers. Make the guides your own; mark them up, rip out pages, and highlight.
One of my go-to resources is everyone’s favorite TripAdvisor. Check out the Iowa page.
Locate your neighboring counties on a map. You may be closer to their parks, trails, libraries, and museums than your own.
For camping, we normally use Reserve America, Recreation.gov, and My County Parks
