Hey, Thanks for stopping by. I am Jen and I can’t wait to go exploring with you!

I love Pinterest; all its enticing possibilities…and then after an hour of scrolling – reality strikes! Those bucket-list adventures and exotic destinations aren’t looming on my horizon anytime soon but that doesn’t change my desire to be in the here-and-now.

So here I am, an Iowa home school graduate, exploring home with my “super” charming husband, twin boy & girl kiddos and my fluffy 15 lb puppy Toby (he’s now 10 yrs old but still my baby). I drive my husband nuts because I am always wanting to go somewhere new. He says, “Every campsite has the same thing; trees, a trail and grass”. “But I want to see a new tree,” is my response.

This blog, Field Trip Iowa, is a simple place, with inspiring images and practical advice to help you and your family find that “new tree” and the hidden gems that foster learning and excitement!

Field Trip Iowa wants your family to connect through learning experiences across Iowa and our Neighboring States! We’ll show you great adventures and tell you everything you need to know to enjoy them. Come Explore With Us!

All the photography, images or graphic work is my own, unless noted. Very little editing is done. Most images are shown how I took them. I don’t add fancy colors or filters or extras – these are the beautiful images of our state that you can enjoy too!  Please Pin and share but link back to this original site.

  1. Hello,

I work for Reiman Gardens. There are some inaccuracies in your article about Reiman Gardens that I was hoping you could fix. http://fieldtripiowa.com/reiman-gardens-ames/

Cost – You list $4-8 (Group rates available). It should be $7.00 per student with no group rates.

You say “When most people hear about Reiman Gardens, it’s because of the butterflies! But there are also 14 acres of beauty to enjoy!” but we actually have 17-acres.

You said that National Public Gardens Day is on May 6th, but that’s no longer an accurate date. It changes annually because it’s actually the Friday before Mother’s Day. Please say instead say that you can get free admission on the Friday before Mother’s Day.

You say “*update – currently the 2nd Wednesday of each month is free. Please check the website for any changes to this program.” And we’re no longer doing monthly free days so please remove this.

You say “*** Also in Ames is the ISU Insect Zoo. You can have a field trip for your group that combines both the gardens and zoo!” and we no longer partner with the ISU Insect Zoo. So please remove that.

    1. Hi Maria,
Thank you for bringing these updates to my attention. It can be challenging to keep up with all the locations we have visited. I have made the changes and appreciate your feedback. 🙂 Jen
