To prepare for your Devonian Fossil Gorge visit – check out the fossil map and this Video from IPTV. Bring along blank white paper and crayons to make rubbings of the fossils. Have fun!
When you get there – make sure to stop at the Corps of Engineer’s Visitor Center at the east end of the dam. You’ll find bathrooms, water and great information. My kids were given little welcome bags with goodies and a colored postcard of what the ancient sea bed would have looked like.
We had a blast during our Devonian Fossil Gorge visit which was part of a camping trip we took to Lake MacBride State Park. Sadly, my father passed away a couple of weeks after we returned home and I am not sure what happen to any of my photos from that time. It was a beautiful trip and I remember how peaceful it was waking up in our tent on Sunday morning and walking down by the Coralville Res Boat Ramp along Lake MacBride road.
*I would love to see any photographs you take of the fossils or the beautiful lakes!
