For me, Madison County with its romantic Covered Bridges perfect for a movie set, John Wayne fans and a famous winery always felt tailored for adults. Recently, our family was pleasantly surprised with a kid-friendly fun weekend trip to Winterset, the City Park, Clark Tower, Pammel State Park and a visit to Cedar Covered Bridge in Madison County!
***Sadly this bridge has been burned down. Please check back with the Madison County Chamber for updates.
I knew the kids would love the experience of driving through a covered bridge. Cedar Covered Bridge in Madison County is one of only six remaining covered bridges and the only covered bridge you can drive your vehicle across.
Cedar Bridge is located on a gravel road between Highway G4R and Winterset. There are brown signs along the highway but they are small. Finding an address is difficult, so use the download map provided by the Madison County Chamber of Commerce.
Our family enjoyed this short first stop to Cedar Covered Bridge in Madison County. The kids found the bridge interesting and daddy was explaining some of the structural aspects. This is like a beautiful roadside park. There are two picnic shelters with charcoal grills. This area would be a unique gathering location for families or large groups.
